Run, edit and undo a change with the demo database
A short walkthrough in the built-in demo database. Run a query, correct a value, commit the change and then undo it.
This walk-through takes about five minutes and touches every core idea in QuackDB: querying, editing, committing and undoing. It uses the built-in demo database, so nothing you do affects real data.
Before you begin
- QuackDB for Mac is installed and open.
Procedure
- 01On the first screen choose Continue without signing in, then choose Demo. QuackDB opens a sample database in a new workspace.
- 02In the sidebar, open a table. Its rows appear in the data grid.
- 03Choose SQL Editor in the toolbar, write a query such as
SELECT * FROM users LIMIT 10;and press ⌘ ↩. Results appear beneath the editor with the row count and run time. - 04Return to a table and double-click a cell. Change the value and press Return.
- 05Look at changes in the toolbar. The count shows one pending change. Open the panel to review it.
- 06Add a commit message that says why you changed the value, then choose Commit.
- 07Open the History tab. Your commit is listed with its message, time and a short ID.
- 08Choose Undo on that entry to reverse the change.
Result
You have run SQL, edited data, recorded the change with a message and reversed it, without leaving the app. The same workflow applies to your own databases.
Next step
Connect a database to repeat this on your own data.
